daddy dressed me...

On Friday I had a doctor's appointment in the morning, so Johnny got Kathryn dressed. When I got home, this is what she was wearing. (Well, I did add the blanket, paci, and rattle for the picture.)
A wahoo family...

Christmas cards

Just wondering if anyone has any good ideas on what to do with Christmas cards after Christmas? Do you just throw them away, or do you keep them? I am especially curious about the picture ones. Looking forward to any ideas (or just the advice to chuck them!)...

Lots of "Aunts" and "Uncles"!

Kathryn got to meet several of her "aunts" and "uncles" this weekend (our dear friends from college), including Josh and Tabitha in the first picture and Naomi and Andrew in the second. We are looking forward to meeting more of them at the 10K race at the end of March!

At Brooke's House

On Saturday afternoon, we got to go to my dear friend Brooke's house to visit with her sweet, beautiful family. Here is Alisia holding Kathryn. Wasn't it just last year that Alisia was that size??

Brooke has always been a great photographer, and she has greatly influenced me in my love for pictures. She had a great idea for a photo session of Kathryn, so I followed suit with my camera, after finally finding the settings for sepia and black and white.

We miss you, Brooke!

Over the River and Through the Woods...

On Friday, Kathryn and I ventured up to Harrisonburg for her first visit up there. Johnny was in North Carolina at camp with a hundred high schoolers, so we trekked up there for the weekend. We got to stay with my parents, Grandma and Grandpa, which was wonderful! An especial thanks to my mom, who stayed up with Kathryn 2 nights in a row so that I could get 8 hours of sleep each night...wow!!! THANK YOU MOM!!!!

There were lots of new things to see and do for Kathryn, so the next several posts will log our trip. These pics are from our Sunday afternoon visit at the Lookabills. We had a wonderful time of sharing lunch together, talking, and letting Noa Noll and Kathryn meet each other and "play" for the first time. It's amazing how much bigger Noa seems, even though she's only 3 months older than Kathryn. There is so much to look forward to!

"Help, I'm stuck! How do you lift your head like that, Noa?"

Noa looks like she's not sure what to think of Kathryn in this one!

Noa knew what to do when she saw a camera...smile!

Both are smiling...a good sign that they're having a good time!

Growing up even more!

I had to post our good and exciting news that Kathryn slept the whole night last night in her crib! Now, she didn't sleep through the night (she woke up still to eat several times), but she went at least 3 hours between each of her feedings, and slept all by herself the rest of the time. She even put herself to sleep some (laid there and dozed off). I don't know if this was just a one-time thing, or if we're on to a new era of night-time sleeping. Putting her in the crib was pretty much an experiment, because she hasn't been sleeping very well in her bassinet recently. I was a little nervous about it, but Johnny was so sweet to pray with me before we went to sleep, and God was gracious in aleviating those fears so that I could rest well. I don't know if we just heard her every peep in the bassinet and putting her in the crib prevented that, or if she really did just sleep better. Either way, I feel great after getting up at 8:30 for the day (instead of sleeping in till 10 because of desperation and lack of sleep) well-rested and ready for all that God has in store for today. I will try to snap a picture of her in the crib sometime and post it on here. Till then, I'm hopeful that we are on to a new stage in life, one of improved sleeping!

Our Big Girl!

Every Monday night Johnny and I have been blessed by being a part of a small group Bible study through our church (www.roanokechurch.com). Tonight, we had fun dressing Kathryn for the occasion, including putting jeans and little pink tennis shoes on her. She looked like such a big girl! It's fun dressing her in "big girl" clothes, as we call them, as opposed to her little sleepers and "baby" clothes. Can you believe she'll be 6 weeks old this Friday??

Swing Time

Kathryn has been enjoying a few more things since she's been getting older and bigger. One of those things is spending time in her swing. The magic of it is, we can put her in it when she's awake, and she often ends up asleep! The only thing is, her head ends up in this really weird position in which it looks like it's more attached to her shoulder than her neck. We don't have a picture of that, but we hope you enjoy these pictures of her in the swing.

This last one is a funny face that we thought we'd include...kinda doing the whole stick out and roll the tongue while winking thing.

1 month old!

Kathryn is 1 month old today! She had her one-month doctor visit, and the doctor was pleased with how well she's doing. She weighs 9lbs 10oz (75th percentile!) and is 20.75 inches long (50th percentile). She cried for maybe 30 seconds when sheh got her shot, and then was as good as can be again. Praise God for a healthy little girl! Hopefully we can write another post soon and praise God for how well she's sleeping at night (we're still working on that one...!).

Play Time!

Kathryn has recently started enjoying more interaction time, including playing with toys. So the other day I got out her Happy Hippo Gym (thanks Naomi!) to see how she'd like it. As you can see, she had a great time with it! I was even able to get a smile on camera in the second picture!

First tub bath

Here are pictures from Kathryn's first big-girl tub bath! Notice the rolls on her arms and double chin! She went back and forth between crying and seeming to enjoy it. Here is one of those crying times.
And here is one of those enjoying it times. She especially liked it when we let the warm water pour over her tummy and head.
